Jolly Pumpkin’s name sometimes elicits a bit of confusion (“so, it’s not a pumpkin beer?”). Fun and quirky, much like Jolly Pumpkin’s Brewmaster, Ron Jeffries, the name bubbled forth years ago on a warm spring afternoon in Michigan. The Jolly crew sat, pen and paper in hand, brainstorming, smiling and laughing. Though many great names came forth that March afternoon, the name that always made the team smile was Jolly Pumpkin. It encompassed everything they wanted to express about the brewery — simple and complex, complex yet simple. The name also combines images of everyone’s favorite holiday, Halloween, and Brewmaster Ron’s two nicknames: Brewmaster Spooky and Captain Ron.
Once the Jolly Pumpkin crew decided on the company moniker, the only thing left to do was add “Artisan Ales” to the end of the name. Because Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales are indeed fantastic beers of truly outstanding, artisan quality. And, this Wednesday, July 8th beginning at 3:00pm, we raise our glass to Captain Ron, Brewmaster Spooky and all the alter egos that make up one exceptional brewery: Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales!
