Lagunitas Tap Takeover at Blind Tiger Ale House

September 30, 2015 @ 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Blind Tiger Ale House

281 Bleecker St., New York, NY10014

Change is in the air: the weather is cooling, the Giants are collapsing, the Mets and Yankees are getting ready for the playoffs, and Lagunitas is worth a billion dollars. Wait a second – a billion what? Yes, it’s true. The same people who taught us the difference between Nighttime and Daytime, and why it’s dangerous to confuse the two when partaking, sold half their company to Heineken for a still warm 500 million, which is a lot more than a Little Sumpin’ Sumpin. They also announced they’re going to start selling their beer in cannabis-colored bottles. Just kidding. Only on St. Patrick’s Day. I’m sorry, I just can’t help myself. Of course it does give a whole new meaning to their Skunk Train pilgrimage.

Okay, that’s it. Besides, I don’t know what else to say. Craft beer is changing, and I’m glad I got to be a part of it when we were all a bunch of minor leaguers traveling the festival circuit. Now it’s the fall, when rosters expand, and some of our players are getting called up to the Big Leagues. And those of us left behind will be able to say, man, I remember when Tony and Ron first came to NYC, and we went out and splurged on steaks and wine at Dylan Prime, and then we had more drinks, and the one-hitter appeared as if by magic, and then…well, when you’re with those two your memory starts to mumble at that point.

There are some conspiracy theorists out there who claim Tony did this deal just so he and Ron could spend more time in Amsterdam, and write the whole thing off. I wouldn’t put it past them, but let’s be honest: half a billion dollars for half of a company you started up in your kitchen is pretty tempting. I doubt many of the purists out there would pass that test. And in the end what really changes? Lagunitas will get to play the world like it’s a board game, and the Tiger scouts will continue to search out the young guns who have just turned pro and are looking to make a mark in the game, just as Tony did way back in 1993.

So please join us on Weds Sept 30th, starting at 3pm, as we once again welcome Ron Lindenbusch and the Lagunitas team for their annual event at the Tiger. It’ll be a great chance to turn green with envy – I didn’t say that – and catch up with some old friends who made it big.
