Brewery Ommegang will be popping up in bars all across the five boroughs late this week as part of their “fall crawl,” or five borough bar crawl.
The NYC takeover is spread out over October 22 – 24, with an event planned for each borough. Ommegang has partnered up with a local craft brewery for each event. For each event, participants meet at the brewery, enjoy a tasting, and then head out to a lineup of local bars hosting tap takeovers featuring Ommegang and the brewery.
Tickets are $20 a piece, with all proceeds going to Northeast Hop Alliance. Your ticket will get you admission to a tasting at the partnering brewery, an exclusive FBBC t-shirt, beer samples at each location, a special commemorative gift at the last stop, and (for the Queens event) transportation from Finback to bar crawl area.
Here’s a breakdown of the events (click for more details and ticket links):
Ommegang’s press release about the Five Borough Bar Crawl is below:
It’s a marriage made in hop-heaven. Upstate New York’s Brewery Ommegang is once again trekking south for a fall crawl. This year’s edition, aptly re-named the “Five-Borough Bar Crawl,” features partnerships with a quintet of the City’s most interesting craft brewers, a couple interesting brewing collaborations, bus and walking tours of NYC’s best bars in each borough, and to top it off, a feel-good element as well. Ticket sales for the three-day event running October 22-24 benefit the Northeastern Hop Alliance, a coalition of brewers, farmers, and educators dedicated to re-establishing commercial specialty hops production in New York and the Northeast.
The participating metro breweries include: Bronx Brewery in Bronx, Birerria in Manhattan, Threes Brewing Company in Brooklyn, Flagship Brewing Company in Staten Island, and Finback Brewery in Queens. They will be working closely with Brewery Ommegang on organizing the fun and attracting participants, with two of the breweries utilizing NYS hops provided by Ommegang to develop collaborative beers to feature and showcase as well. Birerria is making a hop-forward amber ale that they will pour for crawlers on Saturday at their signature event. Brooklyn-based Threes Brewing is going a step further and making a collaboration with Ommegang, a hoppy saison, playfully named Was it Good for You?, available for sale for a limited time throughout the state.
“Nothing gets us more excited than heading down to the city and soaking in all the amazing craft spirit emanating from the great bars and breweries based there,” said Bill Wetmore, General Manager and Marketing Director for Brewery Ommegang. “A lot of city-dwellers head upstate to enjoy the beauty, peace and tranquility we have to offer – for us, our fall excursions are a chance to run the reverse. And I am very excited this year that not only are we hitting all five boroughs, we are working with some really creative breweries to bring a lot of fun and support a great cause.”
Complete schedules and start times for each day’s crawl can be found at the ticket portals listed below. Attendees will receive a commemorative gift, and will be given the chance to sample both Ommegang and the participating brewery’s beer. Brewers and staff from both Brewery Ommegang and participating microbreweries will join attendees throughout the crawl. Each borough crawl will feature an event at the participating microbreweries, followed by tap takeovers at surrounding bars throughout the neighborhood.
If you’re in the NYC area, we hope you’ll join us.
