The new Coney Island Brewery location is set to open next month. The new brewery is located on their namesake’s iconic Surf Avenue in Brooklyn.
The brewery will feature a 10-barrel brewhouse, tasting room, retail space, and tours. There’s no on-site food, but plenty of options in the area.
Visitors can expect to find classic Coney Island beers like Mermaid Pilsner on draft alongside more limited runs liken Freaktoberfest (a “copper infused pumpkin and espresso ale”). According to some sources, the first specialty beer might be a honey stout. All eight draft selections will be brewed on site.
There have been significant changes at Coney Island Brewing since Boston Beer Company subsidiary Alchemy & Science acquired the company two years ago. Many of the beers have been reformulated, the brand has received new design treatment, and several new beers have been introduced to their lineup. The new Coney Island Hard Root Beer has recently been released, just as the polarizing Not Your Father’s Root Beer hit the NYC market.
The new Coney Island Brewery will be a great addition to the area as it undergoes a process of development and revitalization. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Alchemy & Science chief Alan Newman remarked:
Coney Island didn’t look like this in the late ’50s. It was pretty cool, and it’s gonna be cool again. In the last five years that I’ve been coming back to Coney Island, I’m so impressed with the development going on down here: the people, the intent to bring Coney Island back to its luster, and every year you see massive improvement down here.
The brewery is set to open to the public on September 4 at 1904 Surf Avenue. No word yet on an official opening party.
We have good news. Our brewery on Surf Avenue will be officially open to the public September 4th! Less than 1 month away!
