Brewery Ommegang will be releasing their first-ever American IPA in a pop-up growler shop located SoHo next week. Nirvana IPA will have “West Coast assertiveness and East Coast restraint: fruity, juicy and hoppy with balance and mild bitterness,” clocking in at 6.5% ABV and 60 IBUs.
Wait… An Ommegang IPA? A growler pop-up shop? What???
One thing at a time:
The Cooperstown brewery has focused on Belgian beer styles since opening in 1997, so their decision to release an American IPA is not only impressive, but indicative of trends in the craft beer market.
“The Growler Store” is where you can pick up a limited edition growler. Once you have your growler, you can then take it to one of eight retailers across the city to have it filled with Nirvana IPA before the official launch date of April 20. Ommegang is also hosting a two private tasting events for the first 300 people who purchase a growler online.
The Growler Store will be set up at 40 Wooster Street in SoHo all next week (April 13 – April 19). The open hours are:
“Where can I get my limited edition growler filled before Nirvana is officially launched?” you might wonder. Glad you asked. Here are the pre-launch retailers for Nirvana IPA:
Here’s what Ommegang has to say about Nirvana IPA:
Nirvana IPA is our first India Pale Ale and we believe hop lovers will find the diverse combination of citrus aromas and the juicy, hoppy goodness truly transcendent. Our brewers dreamed up an IPA with West Coast assertiveness and East Coast restraint: fruity, juicy and hoppy with balance and mild bitterness. We believe in balance and we brewed a beer to help you find yours. Seven hops blend together for one transcendent IPA. Nirvana pours a light, coppery golden hue with a pure white head. Notes of citrus, peach, apricot and pineapple waft from the glass, while floral and pinesap aromas linger in the background. We think it’s our most adventurous beer yet, but don’t take our word for it. Find Nirvana in bars across NYC starting April 20th and taste for yourself.
Nirvana IPA will be produced at sister-brewery Boulevard in Kansas City and officially available in six-packs and on draft across the tri-state area on April 20. Learn more about Nirvana IPA at IFoundNirvana.com.
