Brooklyn Brewery announced an exciting new expansion to the Brooklyn Navy Yard today.
The Williamsburg-based craft brewery plans to open in the newly renovated Building 77 in 2018. Brooklyn Brewery will occupy the first floor alongside Russ & Daughters, Brooklyn Grange, Brooklyn Roasting Company, Mast Brothers Chocolate. The new location will feature a brewery on the ground floor with a walkway where visitors can get a bird’s-eye view of the new production facility, along with a sixteenth-floor rooftop beer garden which promises unbeatable views of the Manhattan skyline. The brewery will move their offices to Building 77 as well.
The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a historic group of historic buildings dating to 1801. The Navy Yard produced warships for the US Navy during World War II before closing in 1966. Recently, the spaces have been revitalized as an industrial, creative and manufacturing hub for Brooklyn-based businesses with plans for public access with the opening of Building 77.
Brooklyn Brewery published a blog post earlier today assuring readers that they will maintain a space in Williamsburg until well after the opening in the Navy Yard. Steve Hindy confirmed that Brooklyn Brewery’s lease in Williamsburg does not end until 2025, and that they hope to maintain a brewpub or retail space after it expires. The blog post also confirmed that plans are in the works to open a large production facility in Staten Island at some point the future, but details on that project remain sparse.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Brooklyn Brewery has signed a 40-year lease at the Navy Yard, with terms that will ensure stable rent. Such an arrangement will ensure Brooklyn Brewery remains a prominent fixture in the NYC craft beer scene for years to come.
