The latest craft brewery to emerge from Queens is set to debut during Queens Beer Week (May 8 – May 17).
LIC Beer Project will specialize in Belgian-style and wild ales. Head brewer Dan Acosta fell in love with good beer while backpacking through Belgium. He has since developed a deep fascination with yeast, which will be showcased in their beer (expect to see lots of Brettanomyces beers in their lineup). The LIC Beer Project facility boasts NYC’s first coolship, a vessel used for open-fermentation. The process of fermenting beer in an exposed environment attracts wild yeast to help ferment and sour the beer. An extensive barrel-aging program is already underway, so we might see some barrel-aged sours in the not-too-distant future.
LIC Beer Project will officially open to the public in early June, but we can get a preview of their beers and space during Queens Beer Week (details here).
